The Queen Mother standing on the equator line at Equator Station during her 1959 tour of Kenya with the "Colony's" Governor Sir Evelyn Baring. She is looking at a symbol of the globe on a marble plinth indicating the northern and southern hemispheres. The east African country became an independent state within the Commonwealth in 1963
