The Pope receives the Queen. Prince Philip listens as Pope John XXIII talks with Queen Elizabeth II during the private audience with the supreme pontif of the Roman Catholic Church in the Throne Hall of the Vatican Palace today. The Pontiff sat on his throne and the Queen and the Duke sat on two armchairs drawn close to the throne during the audience. The Queen wore a full length black gown and a hip length veil and Prince Philip wore the full dress uniform of an Admiral of the Fleet
