Scope and content

Queen's 1979 Tour of The Gulf. Just before the Queen arrived at Riyadh airport in Concorde, all the guards bowed low in prayer on the tarmac and military bands put down their instruments and guns and prostrated themselves on rugs. Such is the awe and reverence that the people of their oil state have for jet age power. The Queen was wearing a full length sapphire silk dress with long sleeves out of respect for the custom of Saudi Arabia. Picture shows: The wind catches the Queen's dress as she is welcomed by King Khalid, who needed the aid of a walking stick after a recent severe operation. Buckingham Palace confirm that dress is by Hardy Amies
