Scope and content
Even a Royal face can't keep straight when there are Goons about. Prince Charles had a command performance of Goonery on Monday night (11-11-74) at a dinner in London to celebrate the publication of a book of scripts of radio's famous Goon Show programmes. But only three of the Goons were there: Spike Milligan, Peter Sellers and Michael Bentine. The sick absentee was Harry Secombe. Not to be outdone he sent the Prince a poem. "Oh spare a thought for poor old Ned, lying sick upon his bed - wishing he were there tonight instead of being struck with blight." Prince Charles (right) encounters an apparently sleeping Spike Milligan. Watching, from left, are fellow Goons Peter Sellers and Michael Bentine and book publisher Jeremy Robson of Robson Books
