These letters were loaned to the University from 16 April 2001 - 16 October 2006, after being discovered in a house clearance in Gloucester. They were subsequently withdrawn for potential sale and the whereabouts of originals are currently unknown. They are not part of the Haines collection at Gloucestershire Archives. These documents are photocopies of the originals made whilst in the custody of the University of Gloucestershire

The original documents were presented in two modern folders and the photocopies are numbered to reflect the original order found in the folders. As there was no coherent date or author order the letters have been sorted into three files, letters from John Freeman, letters from Wilfrid Wilson Gibson and letters from various sources. Another file contains photocopies of envelopes containing the letters which were collected separately
