A series of pictures depicting the life and times of the Duke of Windsor. The Duke, who is the eldest son of his late Majesty King George V, was born 23 June 1894. He ascended the throne as King Edward VIII in January 1936 and abdicated in December 1936. Six months later her married Mrs Wallis Warfield (formerly Simpson). Photo shows The Duke of Windsor, then a young officer in the British Army with his father King George V (with beard) examining a gas bomb at Helfaut, France, during the First World War
