Prince Charles driving a Silver Jubilee taxi

London. Prince Charles takes the wheel for a spin around Buckingham Palace quadrangle today in Britain's only Silver Jubilee taxi. His passenger climbing into the rear seat is the cab's official driver, Mr Ted Ritchie, of Wandsworth, who was chosen for the job from London's 16,000 taxi drivers. The silver painted cab, a brand new vehicle costing £4000, will be used, free of charge, for fund raising events for the Queen's Silver Jubilee Appeal. September 1962 file photo shows Her Royal Highness Princess Alice, Countess of Athlone, 94, who is oldest and longest living member of the British Royal Family. Born 25 February 1883, the Countess is also the last surviving granddaughter of Queen Victoria. The Princess goes shopping, travels by bus, and goes to St Mary Abbotts church when in London. She loves gardening, opera, football and cricket, but does not care much for TV. Princess Alice married Prince Alexander of Teck in 1904, had one daughter and has several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Queen Elizabeth and King Taufa'ahau Tupou IV

The Queen, with the 20 stone King Taufa'ahau Tupou IV, one of the world's heaviest heads of state, after he has greeted her and Prince Philip on their arrival in Tonga during their Silver Jubilee Tour of the Pacific.
