Queen's 1979 Tour of The Gulf. Just before the Queen arrived at Riyadh airport in Concorde, all the guards bowed low in prayer on the tarmac and military bands put down their instruments and guns and prostrated themselves on rugs. Such is the awe and reverence that the people of their oil state have for jet age power. The Queen was wearing a full length sapphire silk dress with long sleeves out of respect for the custom of Saudi Arabia. Picture shows: The wind catches the Queen's dress as she is welcomed by King Khalid, who needed the aid of a walking stick after a recent severe operation. Queen Elizabeth and King Taufa'ahau Tupou IV

The Queen, with the 20 stone King Taufa'ahau Tupou IV, one of the world's heaviest heads of state, after he has greeted her and Prince Philip on their arrival in Tonga during their Silver Jubilee Tour of the Pacific. During her visit the Queen bestowed one of Britain's highest honours on the Tongan ruler. He was made a Knight Grand Cross of St Michael at St George, a rank limited to 100 holders, at a ceremony in Tonga's Royal Palace
