On 4 August 1980, the Queen Mother celebrates her 80th birthday. The Queen Mother has always been famous for her millinery and in this July 1947 library picture she wears a striking toque, in grey felt, decorated all round the high brim with clipped ostrich feathers, finished off with a felt bow on the right side. The occasion was as Queen Elizabeth she attended a St James's Palace garden party in aid of the British Empire Nurses War Memorial Fund

Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother photographed as a baby. She was born on 4 August 1900 as Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, the daughter of the 14th Earl of Strathmore. Married His Royal Highness the Duke of York (Prince Albert) on 26 April 1923. He succeeded as King George VI on 11 December 1936 and died 6 February 1952.
