Portrait of the Queen Mother

This portrait of the Queen Mother, who celebrates her 80th birthday in August, was painted in 1940 by Augustus John who considered it a failure but the Queen Mother liked it and gave it a place of honour in her drawing room. Now, the portrait is among the paintings and drawings the Queen Mother has loaned to an exhibition celebrating her birthday. Called "The Queen Mother, a Celebration", the exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery, runs from 27 June 1980 to 28 September 1980

On exhibition at Spink & Son in St James's for a week from tomorrow will be this portrait of the Queen Mother by 23 year old Richard Stone. The painting was commissioned by the Royal Anglian Regiment, of which she is Colonel in Chief, to celebrate its tenth anniversary

A new portrait, almost life-size, of the Queen Mother painted by Mr Leonard Boden. The original canvas is 5 1/2 feet by 3 1/2 feet. The portrait is to hang in the Royal College of Music in London, of which her Majesty is president, it will be shown in the Royal Society of Portrait Painters' exhibition opening at the Mall Galleries here tomorrow (June 12). Mr Peter Morrison, Fellow of the Royal College of Music, a member of the council, has given the portrait to the college. Sittings were given at Clarence House

Scottish-born Susan Crawford's recently completed portrait of Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother, commissioned for the Black Watch, of which regiment she is Colonel in Chief. On show at the National Portrait Gallery from tomorrow until 11 June, it shows her Majesty against a Scottish landscape. She wears a navy-blue stole over a dress of delicate green, to which is pinned a brooch bearing the regimental crest of the Black Watch

The Queen Mother celebrates her 83rd birthday on 4 August 1983, and this new portrait of her, commissioned by the Scottish National Portrait Gallery from Israeli artist Avigdor Irikha, goes on show at the gallery to coincide with her birthday. The portrait, measuring approximately 20 by 20 inches, was painted in oils in the course of a single day (6 July) at Clarence House, London

The portrait of the Queen Mother that will be given to fighter pilots of the Royal Air Force by their predecessors who fought during the Second World War.
