Includes note by Irvine Bennett Miller "The Palframan Books: 'Know Your Numbers & Tables' were used to speed number and table skills. Each child was given a strip of paper, and wrote the answers on the strip. Then the children scored each other and top scores were given "House" points. Later low scores were subtracted from "House" points"

King Edward VIII assassination attempt

Princess Anne and Captain Mark Phillips were both unhurt in last night's kidnap attempt by an armed gunman in The Mall, but four other people were shot and wounded. Attacks on members of the Royal Family have been rare, and until 1936 no attacks had been attempted for more than 30 years. It was in July 1936 the King Edward VIII escaped unhurt when a man in the crowd near Wellington Arch produced a revolver. The man, Patrick McMahon, was immediately disarmed, and is pictured here after his arrest

King Edward VII and King George V

Father and second son. King Edward VII (right) with his second son, Prince George, who later became King George V. Edward, who was born in 1840, was the eldest son of Queen Victoria; he came to the British throne in 1901, and died in 1910. George was born in 1865 and succeeded his father in May 1910.
