Just before the Queen arrived at Riyadh airport in Concorde, all the guards bowed low in prayer on the tarmac and military bands put down their instruments and guns and prostrated themselves on rugs. Queen's Tour of Eastern Arabia 1979. The Queen and Prince Philip were greeted by Arab Princess in gold and brown robes as they arrived in Kuwait by Concorde on Monday (12 February) on the first stage of their three week tour of the Middle East. Wearing a long sleeved apricot sorbet coloured dress with matching pillbox hat, with flowing oriental style scarf, the Queen was greeted by the 51 year old Emir of Kuwait. A 21 gun salute was fired and two national anthems were played by the Queen and Prince were escorted to the Royal Yacht Britannia. In the evening the Emir gave a state banquet in honour of the Royal couple. With the growing trouble in Iran the Queen's visit is seen as strengthening bonds with Britain.
