The life and times of the Duke of Windsor

A series of pictures depicting the life and times of the Duke of Windsor. The Duke, who is the eldest son of his late Majesty King George V, was born 23 June 1894. He ascended the throne as King Edward VIII in January 1936 and abdicated in December 1936. Six months later her married Mrs Wallis Warfield (formerly Simpson). The Duke now lives in France. Photo shows The Duke and Duchess of Windsor photographed on their wedding day at Chateau De Cande, France, in 1937

King George VI crowning

After his crowning in Westminster Abbey, on 12 May 1937, King George VI ascended the throne in the Coronation theatre and the Bishops and peers of the realm each performed the act of homage to the King, touching his crown and kissing his left cheek with their hands between the King's hands they pronounced the words of homage.
